Great event photography gets right to the action. Not all of your clients or staff will be able to attend every event so the next best thing is to show them as accurately as possible how the event happened, trying to capture all the emotion and atmosphere. Don’t forget the potential cost savings too. If an event is documented accurately it can be used well into the future as a promotional tool. It may be a glitzy awards ceremony, in-house corporate training, management team building session or even a public announcement, all captured for years of reference or even years of promotion.
The Great City Race takes place every summer supporting the official race beneficiary: Seeing is Believing, an organisation committed to helping avoidable blindness worldwide. The course is 5km of closed off streets beginning and ending at Armoury House, City Road, London. 2018 marked the 15th anniversary for the leading 5km corporate running challenge with over 6000 runners from 350 individual corporate teams taking part in the event.
A9K Photo was asked to provide live reportage of the race from the pre-race warm up session right through to the finish line. Jobs like this are a genuinely exciting challenge. A photographer can go from posed set pieces to literally being in pursuit of a moving target from minute to minute. Your equipment choice is paramount to avoiding overcomplicating the situation and facing off against the risk of fatigue. You need just enough camera gear to get the job done but remain light and agile enough to dart around the location, in between the crowds of not just the competitors but the supporters, security people and race officials too. An interesting mix of photographic technical skill, common sense equipment choice and thinking on your feet to get the job done.
